Photographers that want to add a little bit of spice to their photographs should try to incorporate the arabesque in their compositions. An arabesque, also known as the "line of continuity," collects, organizes, and relates different elements in a composition. An arabesque can be used to tie in the background with the foreground or connect specific components together in a design to create a sense of unity. A well-designed arabesque will allow the viewer's eyes to move fluidly (without hesitation) through a composition in a drawing, painting, or photograph.
For example, In the photograph above, notice how I'm using a curvilinear line to move the viewer through the composition. Also, observe how I'm tieing and connecting the curved line with other elements in the picture. To learn more tips and techniques, click here.
